The International Center for Justice and Human Rights (ICJHR) is non-profit, independent NGO based in Geneva created to promote and defend human rights in the Gulf region. The ICJHR works closely with the United Nations (UN) special procedures and human rights mechanisms at the international and regional level.


To this end, the ICJHR is looking for an intern to work as:

Human rights researcher intern


Role
1. Gather information on human rights issues in the Gulf region from various sources
2. Draft urgent actions and communications addressed to the special procedures of the Human Rights Council in an appropriate form
3. Prepare various working documents based on international conventions and analysis of texts
4. Participate and report on events in relation with Geneva based human rights bodies and mechanisms
5. Maintain permanent links with the working groups, special rapporteurs and permanent missions in Geneva
6. Participate in the organization of events of our NGO
Other tasks will be planned according to the needs of the organization in relation to the skills and the profile of the candidate.


Requirement
• University degree in human rights, international relations, international law, political science or development studies
• Good knowledge of the UN system and human rights mechanisms
• Fluent English, excellent drafting, document review and good communication skills in English and French if possible
• Ability to analyze, synthesize, and understand the political, social and human rights situation in the Arab countries
• Good knowledge of computer and Internet as well as Microsoft office and social Medias
• Be motivated and aware of the challenges of defending human rights in a culturally different context


The internship is paid.

Mission and Goals

ICJHR is a non-profit, independent non-governmental organization based in Geneva. It was founded in May 2014 and focuses its work on the defence of human rights in the Gulf countries, in particular the United Arab Emirates. We regularly work on cases of torture, enforced disappearances, arbitrary detentions and unfair trials, making urgent appeals, reports and communications to UN special procedures and treaty bodies about these cases.
